Dhaka Ahsania Mission (DAM) is implementing SHOUHARDO III DRR program, funded by USAID and technical support of CARE Bangladesh in two district Sunamgonj (Dowarabazar & Tairpur Upazilla )& Netrokona (Modan & Khaliazori Upazilla) . SHOUHARDO III DRR Program is a short term program which will continue from the 15th February 2023 to August 2025.
SHOUHARDO III DRR Program in Haor area is designed to strengthen the resilience of the most vulnerable communities in areas which are highly prone to natural hazards such as flooding. Generally, poor vulnerable families live in flood prone areas and their lives and livelihoods are highly exposed to floods and destroy their houses, household assets, agricultural fields, livestock, fisheries and sanitation conditions. During the over flood, people take the shelter in safe high land places. In Haor area, only 30%-40% of the people have the opportunity to leave the house and take shelter in nearby roads, embankments or highlands. However, people can take the shelter in the safe place but their domestic animals do not keep in the shelters due to not adequate highland places i.e. surrounding of shelter places are down and easily inundated.
For improving this scenario, SHOUHARDO III DRR project has planned to implement community sites/approach roads raising schemes in project locations by direct CARE operated fund and also made a partnership agreement with DAM to implement Minor repair and maintenance of shelter facility in said location.
Goal:
Foster locally led, gender inclusive and policy informed community resilience in Bangladesh, with particular focus on the most vulnerable and flood prone areas of Bangladesh.
