With a view to alleviating poverty through improvement of standard of living of poverty-stricken people across the country and women’s empowerment, Dhaka Ahsania Mission (DAM) started implementation of Microfinance Programme since 1993. With the passage of time, DAM’s Microfinance Programme has enabled to stand on a sustainable foundation. To give microfinance programme an institutional shape, DAM has established “DAM Foundation for Economic Development (DFED)” as a separate institute which has commenced from June 2014 as a Social Enterprise of DAM.
Microfinance has been regarded as the main program of DFED in respect of beneficiary size, working area, volume of capital and belongingness. All other programs/activities strategically are based or centered on microfinance. Efficient management system and tools, linkage with financial institutions, identification of alternative micro-schemes, approach to address the poorest of the poor section and access to the remotest and hard-to-reach locations have added an extra dimension to DFED’s microfinance program. DFED is continuing to invest it’s all endeavor with intensive attention to bring the poor out of this vicious circle. DFED has gained in-depth understanding and valuable experiences over the last two decades that resulted in better program design and implementation.
Main Focus:
- Main focus of DFED’s Micro-finance Programme is to make available financial resources to poor people to undertake income generating activities to improve their quality of life, who otherwise are denied of support from financial institutions.
- To develop micro entrepreneurs who develop enterprises that not only generate employment, for the low skilled labor, but also accelerate economic growth, increase productivity and serve as linkages between the formal sector and large formal export markets.
